Some of his greatest hundreds of years have come against the strong Australian assault which contained a battery of fearsome pacers, however batting legend Rahul Dravid conceded that the best quick bowler he had confronted was Aussie Glenn McGrath.
"They (Australia) were the best cricket group in my era. Among them all, the best bowler that I played against, the best Australian bowler, as well as the best quick bowler (that) I played against must be Glenn McGrath," said Dravid, who was known for his flawless resistance, at an occasion in Mumbai.
"He (McGrath) was totally (splendid), nobody tested my insight into the off-stump as much as McGrath did. He was determined and gave you nothing. A great deal of times, whether he is rocking the bowling alley in first hour of the morning or late toward the evening of at night, he (McGrath) would give you nothing, he was steady (and the) precision," said Dravid, who scored an astounding 13288 keeps running in 164 Test matches.
Loading acclaim on the unbelievable Australian quick bowler, Dravid said, "He was not mean as he looked, but rather he could be exceptionally mean with the cricket ball since he gave you nothing. He was one of those folks you, while batting, think how to score a run and where is the additional run going to originate from. He recently had that level of exactness and control.
"He had great pace, skip yet a decent diversion sense too. McGrath was presumably the best quick bowler I played against," said the previous India chief, who has scored vigorously against the Australians.
McGrath, viewed as one of the best bowlers ever, had taken 563 wickets in 124 Tests and 381 wickets in 250 ODIs.
